Who has the BAFFIN standing seat been designed for?

The BAFFIN standing seat has been designed for people with the abnormal curvature of the spine and muscle dysfunction. It is recommended for children suffering from cerebral palsy, muscle dystrophy, palsies of different origin, tetra and paraplegia and also for children suffering from abnormal posture.

What is the purpose of using the Buffin standing seat?

It can be used both during the treatment and as a preventive device from the inevitable consequences arising due to children's diseases (the abnormal curvature of the spine and related to it malfunctioning of the organism). Its main purpose is the passive posture correction in a sitting position. The Buffin standing seat permits to adjust correctly the child's spine and pelvis. Which means the correct posture and therefore better quality of life. The three basic systems - respiratory, vascular and digestive - are functioning more properly. The use of the Buffin standing seat by a physiotherapist after ending the exercises enhances the chances for regaining correct posture. The construction, after proper adjustment, helps to restore the physiological spinal curvature. It also smoothly corrects all types of scoliosis and passively restores the correct position of kyphosis and lordosis of the spine. The adjustment of the pelvis position (the pelvis in the sitting position is the basis for the entire body) corrects the spine position and simultaneously corrects patient's entire body. The possibility of fluent adjustment of buttocks strain prevents from developing bedsores (helps in treating bedsores), prevents the skin irritation even after a long sitting period. It also enables to keep the correct head position, which makes feeding, learning and playing easier. Each seat is individually adjusted to child's posture by the physiotherapist and every two months (or more frequently) corrected and adapted to the new (closer to correct) child's posture, which makes rehabilitation more effective and enables to introduce new exercises. The innovative feature of the seat is the fact that it "grows" with a child. It is adjusted to the present child's position and height.
